Go anywhere, look anywhere, and you may notice that there are literally well over a thousand skincare brands in the market now. There are so many options, choosing the right skin care items can be a little impossible. I am going to assist you to filter the list by applying a simple filter of what might be important in selecting skin care products. I can eliminate most of the brands by making sure the products are from a brand that is; independently owned, are free of toxins, and are cruelty free. These are universal values that we all have in common and we all support from a brand.Independently owned brands are brands that have not taken any outside capital in exchange for a percentage of control of the brand. These companys are commonly refered to as Indie brands. There are several Indie brands across the market that operate on a small basis due to their small size. And there are a few Indie brands that are forcing the trend and have grown into a nationwide existence. There are also a few Indie brands that are pursuing the goal of being globally traded. One such leader in the Indie space is Russell Organics. They are selling across all beauty channels from mass to luxury. Russell Organics is also internationally traded, with a publicly stated goal of becoming the first globally traded Indie brand. When selecting an Indie brand beware of non-disclosure of external investors. We have checked, and almost every one of the bigger so-called Indie brands have received outside investors.
The following filter for choosing a good organic skincare brand is it being toxin-free. What does this actually mean? There are thousands of synthetic ingredients, botanical ingredients, waxes, and extracts used to make products. Several of these ingredients are synthetic chemicals which have been shown to be toxic to humans and to the environment. Russell Organics is leading the Clean Beauty movement by never using toxic ingredients and by entirely listing every ingredient in every product. Check for yourself. Check the labels. Do you see ingredients listed as parfum? Did you know that fragrance may have in excess of 800 chemicals and you would never realize which ones? Talk about a dangerous situation. Have you ever step into a room and smell a fragrance and at once have water eyes and begin to sneeze? These are the harmful chemicals that may be also be hiding in your skin care products. A wonderful resource to investigate on ingredients is Environmental Working Group which has created a large database of ingredients and disclosed their toxicity.
The final filter is the brand being cruelty free. What does cruelty free mean? There is frequent misinformation regarding the term. Let’s start by identifying that to be cruelty-free, the product is required to be a vegan brand. That requires no animal derived ingredients like milk, honey, beeswax are never added in any product. That eliminates at least 95 percent of the brands in the market. The other criteria for being cruelty-free is having not tested products on animals. Every one of the global mass skin care brands have conducted testing on animals. This chasing of profits at the expense of harming animals is not excusable and should not be supported by using their products.
In summary, these basic primary filters will assist you to narrow down the list of choices to those brands that are worthy of your support. From there it will be a simple option of selecting the right skincare product for your skin type.
