PALUDISMO Y HEMATURIA COMO FACTORES DE EXTINCIÓN DE LA POBLACIÓN EN LA NOVELA “CASAS MUERTASâ€, DE MIGUEL OTERO SILVA

RESUMEN

En el presente trabajo analizamos el contenido de la novela “Casas muertasâ€,del escritor venezolano Miguel Otero Silva, quien concibe y desarrolla el argumento de su obra sobre la base de dos ejes temáticos principales: el paludismo y la hematuria, que arrasan con la población de la importante ciudad de Ortiz, capital del estado Guaricó, en el llano venezolano, en una época en que se carecía de medicinas, la principal o única de las cuales era la quinina. Tampoco hay médicos ni centros hospitalarios o de atención médica. Aparte de esas enfermedades, la principal causa parece ser el abandono de las poblaciones apartadas por el gobierno central, más preocupado en mantenerse en el poder y apagar cualquier intento subversivo que pretenda rebelarse contra el poder.

ABSTRACT

In this work, the content of the novel â€Dead housesâ€, of venezuelan writer MiguelOtero Silva, is analyzed. The author conceives and develops the argument of his work,in base to two main themes: malaria and hematuria, that raze the population of theimportant home city of Ortiz, capital of Guario State, located at venezuelan plain,during a time with shortage of medicines, being quinine the main or the only one.There were not neither doctors nor hospitals or health centers.Besides those diseases, the main cause seems to be the careless and set asidepopulation by the central government, that is more concerned for maintaining thepower and also to overcome any subversive attempt against the power.
